Land at 7 AM, check in at 3 PM: a plan for your bags
First ask your hotel whether it will accept bags before check-in. If not, choose a named storage or delivery service before leaving the airport. Landing at 7 AM does not mean being in central Tokyo at 7 AM: immigration, baggage, customs and travel take time.
Example: Narita arrival, Tokyo hotel, 3 PM room access
- 7–9 AM, allow flexibility: clear arrival formalities, get connected, and check the hotel’s bag-drop reply. Keep medicine, passport, money, valuables and a change of clothes with you.
- Before leaving the terminal: if using delivery, confirm the exact service, your hotel’s acceptance, today’s cutoff and arrival promise. If unavailable, take your bag to the hotel or a named counter.
- Late morning: travel to your hotel neighbourhood and drop bags if agreed. Otherwise store them near a station you will use again. Photograph the counter/location and keep the claim receipt.
- Until 2:30 PM: have breakfast/lunch, a gentle walk or a seated break near the hotel. Avoid a tight sightseeing reservation immediately after an international arrival.
- 3 PM: check in under your booking’s actual terms. If your delivered bag arrives later, use your day bag until then.
Choose your storage option
| Option | Useful when | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel bag drop | You can reach your hotel without a big detour | Permission, hours, fee, valuables policy; room access is separate |
| Station locker | Your bag fits and you will return there | Internal dimensions, posted price, paid-area access and final collection time; availability is not guaranteed |
| Staffed storage | You need a named counter or larger-bag option | Hours, size/weight limits, capacity, booking and same-day collection |
| Airport delivery | You can manage without the suitcase until its delivery window | Product, terminal, hotel area/acceptance, cutoff, bag limit and delivery time |
Named Tokyo Station storage example
GRANSTA’s Japanese notice lists B1 cloak storage inside the gates at ¥500 (S, up to 100 cm combined dimensions), ¥1,000 (M, up to 200 cm) and ¥2,000 (L, above 200 cm). Acceptance is under 250 cm total, up to 2 m length and under 30 kg. Hours are 8:30 AM–9 PM, with same-day collection by 8:30 PM. Check current counter terms; online reservation prices and other counters can differ.
The ¥4,500 delivery in the video
JAL Same-day Delivery is a named service, not a universal airport-delivery tariff. Its current Tokyo service lists ¥4,500 per bag, acceptance until 2 PM and hotel delivery by 10 PM. It serves Tokyo’s 23 wards and Urayasu from Haneda T3 and Narita T2; Narita T1 South needs advance reservation. The published limit is 180 cm total dimensions and 30 kg. Capacity and operational conditions apply, and delivery can be delayed.
Confirm your hotel can accept a bag in your booking name. This product is distinct from ordinary JAL ABC airport courier services and other carriers with different cutoffs/rates. A 10 PM delivery promise does not mean your suitcase will be waiting at 3 PM.
Next action: choose a primary option and a backup counter. There is no reliable universal “all big lockers gone by 8 AM” rule.
