Per traveller: hotel total ÷ room sharers + food days × daily food + transit + activities + connectivity + flights + extras. Add your contingency percentage to that sum.

What this example assumes

To make the recorded numbers usable, this worksheet models one adult, travelling solo, paying for one room for seven nights, based in Tokyo with local travel and a nearby day trip. Those are editorial modelling choices; the recording does not establish a personal itinerary, room occupancy or hotel booking. No Tokyo–Kyoto–Hiroshima rail circuit is included.

Seven nights can span eight calendar days. The film allows only seven food days. If you eat in Japan on both arrival and departure days, change the worksheet to eight days: that adds $60 at the example rate. Add transit and activities for that extra day too if needed.

Where each allowance goes
  • Hotel: $1,000 ÷ 7 = about $142.86 per room per night. It is a spending target, not a verified available property. Check your dates, occupancy, cancellation terms and final tax-inclusive total. Two adults sharing the same $1,000 room bill would allocate $500 each; food, tickets and flights remain per person.
  • Getting around: reserve part of the $200 for both airport journeys and the rest for local trains, subways and the chosen day trip. Price those routes first. A taxi transfer, long-distance Shinkansen or expensive day-trip transport can push you over this allowance. Do not assume a JR Pass fits inside it.
  • Food: $60 × 7 days = $420. One possible daily allocation is $10 breakfast, $15 lunch, $25 dinner and $10 drinks/snacks. This is an allocation exercise, not a menu quote or spending receipt. Adjust for alcohol, dietary needs and meals included with the room.
  • Activities: $250 is the combined pot for teamLab, a day trip and other tickets. It is not a teamLab ticket price. Choose your attraction, date and day-trip destination, check their checkout totals, and subtract any transport already counted above.
  • Connectivity: $25 is a planning allowance. Check the plan’s currency, data, validity, activation timing, hotspot limits and your exact unlocked device. Data-only service does not provide an ordinary voice number.
  • Flights: $1,200–$2,400 return is the recorded illustrative range from Canada, not a current fare search. Choose your Canadian origin, travel dates, cabin, baggage and refund conditions before replacing it with a quote. Business-class travel needs its own actual fare; this economy-style example cannot price it.
Add the costs the film leaves out

Insurance, shopping and other extras are outside the $1,895 ground subtotal. Check accommodation/municipal taxes and service charges at checkout; put only amounts missing from the quoted room total into extras. Check baggage and seat fees, payment/foreign-exchange fees, laundry and additional travel days. If departure tax is already in the airfare, do not add it twice. Leave a contingency for changes, rather than treating the example total as a cap.

Arithmetic and assumptions checked November 2, 2026. No live room, flight, eSIM or insurance quote is implied.
